  • Scope and Content
    This exercise book has been used to record the Sydney Morning Herald production statistics including the supervisor (?) and times of attendance (?), the number of pages, circulation figures, the number of reams and sheets used and the circulation figure for The Sydney Mail and sometimes the quantity of waste.
    Inside the front cover of the volume is a memoranda from the Printer of the Sydney Morning Herald in 1861 giving the quantity of paper used and the average circulation.
    The book has also been used from the rear to show publication details for The Echo. Dots have been used and totalled for each day. It is understood that this may refer to the paper or fonts used, the number of staff or the number of errors.
    Inside the back cover are some tables indicating the cost of type.
    Loose inside the cover is a 4 1/2 page memorandum in shorthand dated 28 June 1877, addressed to John Alfred Fairfax, Herald Office, Sydney. His memorandum is initialled only, and may be from Samuel Cook.
