    The Sun Newspaper Company Ltd came into existence on 29 March 1910 when Hugh R. Denison (later Sir Hugh) , Managing Director of Associated Tobacco Companies made an offer for the assets of the Australian Newspaper Company Ltd, publisher of The Star and the Sunday Sun. Mr Denison was joined by with H. A. Russell, E. Simpson, and William Stuart and Herbert Easton who had been on the Board of Australian Newspaper Company Limited.
    The Star was discontinued at the end of June and The Sun became a daily broadsheet first issued on 1 July 1910
    In March 1918 the Sun Newspaper Company Limited purchased The Northern Times (Newcastle) and on 27 March 1920 the Company was re-constituted as the Sun Newspapers Limited.
  • Scope and Content
    This is the official confirmed set of minutes for The Sun Newspaper Company Ltd signed by the chairman at the following meeting. Meetings were held approximately weekly. The meetings received financial accounts, authorised payments, approved transfers of shares, signed share certificates, considered correspondence, received reports from senior officers and deliberated upon major matters of concern for the Company Related papers are inserted into the volume. These include notices of annual and extraordinary general meetings of shareholders, copies of annual reports and balance sheets. The minutes of the annual meetings are included.

    The series ceased when the company entered voluntary liquidation by resolution of an Extraordinary meeting of shareholders on 12 March 1920. Minutes prior to 23 May 1912 appear to be missing
