  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

William Charles Wentworth (1790-1872) was an Australian explorer, journalist, politician and author, and one of the leading figures of colonial New South Wales. In 1813 Wentworth, along with Gregory Blaxland and William Lawson, led the expedition which found a route across the Blue Mountains and opened up the grazing lands of inland New South Wales. On his death his will provided for a legacy of £25000 to be held in trust to pay the income to his daughter Edith Wentworth (later wife of Archdeacon Dunbar) during her life and on her death to various other beneficiaries. The residuary estate was to be sold and the proceeds held in trust for each of his seven children living at the time of his death.
