    Elizabeth Amy Winbourn Stephen was born at her parents' Mulgoa homestead 'Winbourn' in Western Sydney on 21 February 1853, the first child of the Rev. Alfred Hamilton Stephen (1826-1884) and Rebecca Maria (nee Cox) (1827-1901). Rev. A.H. Stephen was the eldest son of the NSW Chief Justice and Lieutenant-Governor Sir Alfred Stephen (1802-1894), and was appointed the first vicar of St Paul's Church in Cleveland Street, Redfern where he remained for thirty years. Elizabeth Stephen lived in the parsonage of St Paul's until her marriage to John Turner Macrae in 1880. She died at the age of 94 in 1946.

  • Scope and Content
    Three bound diaries by Elizabeth Amy Winbourne Macrae, nee Stephen (1853-1946) written between the years of 1907 and 1931. The diaries span 25 years, and include 'Diary of a Trip to Queensland' by steamer from Sydney, 1907, life in Rydal, New South Wales during World War I, 1914-1916, and finally Elizabeth's daily life as she approaches 80, 1930-1931.
