    Dr Greg de Moore is a consultant psychiatrist at Westmead Hospital, Sydney, and a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Psychiatry at Westmead Clinical School.
    Jim McMurtry was born in Northern Ireland in 1930, arriving in Sydney in 1949. He worked as a psychiatric nurse in Sydney from 1955 to 1975.

  • Scope and Content
    In this interview, Jim McMurtry discusses his career in mental health nursing, including his experiences working as a psychiatric nurse at Parramatta Mental Hospital (now Cumberland Hospital) from 1955 to 1975. He describes the changing methods used to control and restrain agitated patients and the use of medication and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
