  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Verdon Morcom (1926-2019) was a painter, illustrator, graphic designer and courtroom artist. In the early 1950s he worked as an artist for the News Chronicle in London. His paintings and graphic art were exhibited in group exhibitions in Melbourne from 1960-64. In 1971 he moved to Sydney where he was employed by ABC TV Graphics. He worked there for 20 years and his work included drawing courtroom scenes for TV news.

  • Scope and Content
    14 watercolour pencil drawings by Verdon Morcom depicting courtroom scenes from high-profile criminal trials in New South Wales during the 1980s, a period when cameras were not permitted in courtrooms. Drawings include depictions of Anita Cobby’s murderers being sentenced; the participants in the Milperra bikie massacre; Lionel Murphy being sentenced; Michael and Lindy Chamberlain; Tina Wong charged and acquitted of heroin importation; the four men accused of murdering Megan Kalajzich; Abe Saffron and Police Commissioner Bill Allen in Central Criminal Court; Justice James Wood and barristers Tom Hughes and Alec Shand.
