Ruby Langford Ginibi (1934–2011) was an acclaimed Bundjalung writer, historian and lecturer on Aboriginal history, culture and politics. Her best-known book was the autobiographical Don't Take Your Love to Town (1988), which won the Australian Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission Award for Literature. She received an inaugural doctorate of letters from La Trobe University in 1998 and in 2005 was awarded the New South Wales Premier's Literary Awards Special Award.

Maralyn Parker is a former journalist. She met Ruby Langford Ginibi in 1993 when she interviewed her about her latest book. From that date Parker had professional dealings with her as an editor and publisher of her writing in The Daily Telegraph Education Times.
