  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Daphne Kingston (1928-2019) artist and graduate of the Julian Ashton Art School, art teacher, illustrator and author of local histories and studies of early buildings and built heritage , including The Changing Hawkesbury (1979), Early Slab Buildings of the Sydney Region (1985), Sydney's Hidden Charms (1987), Early Colonial Homes of the Sydney Region 1788-1838 (1990), A Hawkesbury sketchbook (1994) and Highways and Byways of the Sydney Region (1999). Kingston was known for her works on slab barns, cottages and colonial houses that once characterised the Sydney area, especially the Hawkesbury. The Historic Houses Association held two exhibitions of Daphne’s works - Vanishing in 2011 and Vanishing Sydney in 2016, showcasing the original drawings and paintings that Daphne used to illustrate her numerous published books on Sydney's early architecture.
