  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Dr Henry Maurice Saxby AM (1924-2014), author of children's books, teacher and lecturer, was born in Sydney and attended Fort Street Boys' High School. After serving in Papua New Guinea during World War II, he studied at Balmain Teachers' College, then went on to attain his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education from the University of Sydney. He was a leading authority on children's literature and Australian children's writing in particular. He promoted the introduction of courses in children's literature in academic institutions and lectured on the subject in several countries.
