Coldstream Refrigerators, under the original name of Ice-O-Lectric, built Australia's first commercial/domestic refrigerator on 15th December 1926 at Unley, South Australia. Between 1927 and 1990 the business built over 300,000 refrigeration units. Mr Edgar Ryves ran a refrigeration sales and repair company in Sydney at Bridge Street, Glebe and around 1948/49 amalgamated with Coldstream. They made commercial refrigerators. Their part of the business was bought out in about 1965. Coldstream Newcastle operated for about three years between 1964 to 1967. The manager was Kees Oomens. - Information provided by Jim Travers.

A very large collection of business records of Adelaide refrigeration firm, Coldstream Pty. Limited, comprising photographs, technical specifications and data, drawings, manuals, trade literature and price lists, administrative and staff records and advertising material was donated to State Library of South Australia Mortlock Library in 1997.
