  • Scope and Content
1 leather-bound ledger with broken silver clasp used as a notebook containing early 20th century recipes and details of cordial and aerated drinks handwritten by Joseph Lillyman, founder of 'J.L. Lillyman, Artesian water and cordial manufacturer'. The ledger contains formulas for a variety of drinks such as dry ginger ale, ginger beer, lemonade syrup, sarsaparilla, hops beer and other items including liquid orange colour, Worcestershire sauce and tomato sauce. The formulas are complex and contain a variety of natural aromatic ingredients which are in stark contrast to contemporary soft drink formulas.
