  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Sir Thomas Makdougall Brisbane (1773–1860) was appointed governor of New South Wales in 1821. His reforms antagonised leading colonists with the result that he was recalled to England, leaving the colony in November 1825.
Colonel James Wilson purchased Sneaton Manor in 1820, subsequently rebuilding it as Sneaton Castle, and was the member for York in the House of Commons from 1826 until his death in 1830.
