- ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
George Gittoes (1949-) is an Australian artist and filmmaker. He grew up in Rockdale, New South Wales, and with Martin Sharp founded the Yellow House artists' collective in Potts Point, which operated from 1970-1973. In 1992 and 1993 he travelled to Cambodia and Somalia to document the work of Australian peacekeeping forces, and in 1995 he accompanied Army public relations staff to observe the aftermath of the Rwanda's civil war. He is a noted campaigner for international peace and in 2015 he was awarded the Sydney Peace Prize in recognition of his life’s work in this area.

An autobiographical work in which Gittoes reflects on his childhood experiences, the Yellow House in Jalalabad, and his time spent in warzones in Africa, the Middle East, the Philippines, Pakistan and South East Asia, as well as life in Europe and the United States.
