  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Saving Moore Park Inc. (SMP) is an independent community group, unaffiliated with any political or activist group. It was established in December 2015 at the time the Minister for Sport, Stuart Ayres, was proposing that a stadium to replace Allianz Stadium should be built on Moore Park. The Committee comprises a partner in a city law firm, a barrister, and people with experience in senior positions in the Federal and NSW Government Departments, and in financial management, urban planning, landscape architecture and transport policy.

SMP aims to preserve the existing area of Moore Park; promote policies and activities that enhance the value of green space to the community; promote transparency among Government Ministers, departments and agencies where proposals and activities potentially affect the integrity of Moore Park; and promote policies and activities that will enhance community access to Moore Park and encourage the community to use it, including the improvement of existing public facilities and the creation of new public facilities.

Michael Waterhouse is the president of Saving Moore Park and the group lobbied to have the Obelisk moved to its current site in Moore Park and helped organise the first Dawn Service at the new location during the centenary of its original unveiling.
