    Marie Roslyn Bashir was born in 1930 in Narrandera, New South Wales, of Lebanese-born parents. She studied at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and is a medical graduate of the University of Sydney. After working as a general practitioner, she completed postgraduate studies in psychiatry and worked largely in the fields of indigenous and adolescent mental health, while also serving as Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Sydney. She was Lady Mayoress of Sydney from 1973 to 1975, when her husband Nicholas Shehadie was Lord Mayor of Sydney. In 2001 Bashir was appointed Governor of New South Wales, a position she held until her retirement in 2014.

    Caroline Baum (b. 1958) is an Australian writer and producer. She has worked as a magazine and book editor, television presenter and media consultant.
