Jesse Gregson (1837-1919) arrived in Sydney in 1856. He learned stock management at Collaroy Station before moving to another station, Rainsworth, in Queensland. In 1875 he became superintendent of the Australian Agricultural Co., a position he held until 1905. In 1880 he built a home at Mt Wilson in the Blue Mountains where he pursued his interest in botany. He regularly sent collections of dried plants and seeds to the Botanic Gardens including some that turned out to be new to science.
