Jeff Bidgood is a member of the Book Collectors’ Society of Australia and a notable collector of bookplates. This unique collection represents a definitive compilation of a very particular type of book related ephemera, being booksellers labels, price stickers, prize, award or presentation bookplates, and library ownership bookplates, which had been glued onto the front pages of books.
Bidgood acquired secondhand books from Opportunity Shops. He soaked the booksellers labels and bookplates off using wet blotting paper, or the front cover was removed and they were soaked off by floating them in water. The collection offers insight into Australian book culture in the 19th and 20th centuries, including the supply, purchase, gifting and lending of books, privately and through public and special libraries.
