Waverley Cemetery was formally opened on 1 August 1877, although plans for a cemetery in the area began as early as 1863. Situated on the headland at Bronte, the cemetery features a large number of intact Victorian and Edwardian funerary monuments. It contains the graves of more than 100,000 people including significant Australians such as Henry Lawson, Dorothea Mackellar, Jules Francoise Archibald, Sir James Martin, Sarah 'Fanny' Durack, William Dymock, Victor Trumper, Lawrence Hargrave and Irishman Michael Dwyer.

Comprises 13 digital photographs of Waverley Cemetery following its official listing the NSW State Heritage Register in October 2016. The photographs document the historic cemetery and monuments in a contemporary context, set against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean, and on the edge of suburbia with glimpses of residential flats beyond the cemetery boundaries. The photographs capture the striking location and highlight the traditional layout of the site, the extensive Victorian and Edwardian funerary monuments and detail of the headstones dating from 1877 to 2016.
