  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Father Edmund McAuliffe was born on the 28 August, 1881 in Ireland. Here he trained as a Catholic priest, before coming to serve at St Mary’s Cathedral, Newcastle, Australia. On 8 September 1914 McAuliffe enlisted in the Chaplain’s Corps (4th Class), which would take him to both Gallipoli and Pozieres. McAuliffe celebrated mass at both locations. On 30 June 1918 McAuliffe returned to Australia, and was awarded the medal for Officer of the Order of the British Empire. He died on 15 November, 1964 aged 83.
