  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Arthur Hennessy (1876-1959) was the founder and captain-coach of the South Sydney District Rugby League Club. In 1908 he was the captain of Australia (the ‘Kangaroos’) in the first rugby league test match. From 1908-1909 he was a selector and member of the inaugural Kangaroo tour of Great Britain. From 1929-1930 he was coach-trainer of the Kangaroo tour of Great Britain.

  • Scope and Content
    Two ledgers and one photograph album used by footballer Arthur Hennessy to make scrapbooks. The collection chiefly relates to Hennessy’s football career and the first 30 years of rugby league. Also included is material on his other interests such as boxing and lifesaving. The first two scrapbooks predominantly cover the period 1904 to 1942; a news clipping from 1988 was added at a later date by an unknown person. The third scrapbook relates to the 1929-1930 Australia Rugby League Football Team (Kangaroo) tour of Great Britain.
