Fairyland of Ida Rentoul Outhwaite was Outhwaite’s fifth book featuring her colour illustrations. It was produced as a collector’s book by the Melbourne based Ramsay Publishing Company and advertised for sale via direct subscription.

This drawing has been consigned from a private family collection, it was brought to the UK approximately 80-90 years ago. They have never previously been through auction, and Bonhams’ believe it was purchased from a gallery in Melbourne.

Original pen, ink and watercolour drawing for Serana's Wedding, from 'Fairyland', depicting a frog officiating at a fairy wedding, laid down on artist's board, signed lower left 'I.R.O', captioned 'The Wedding' in pencil lower right below drawing.

The drawing shows Serana standing beside her groom with 4 fairies as her attendants holding her train. The bride and groom are also attended by 2 pixies.

Also included is the artist's backing board that is captioned 'The Wedding' in pencil on verso with numeric notations, and the ink stamp of 'W. & G. Dean, Equitable Place, Melbourne'.
