In 1912 Sid Ferguson, driver and mechanic, and Francis Birtles, navigator made the first west to east crossing of Australia in a Brush Runabout, a single-cylinder vehicle made by Brush Motor Car Company. They drove 2,600 miles in 28 days driving from dawn to dusk mainly on desert camel tracks and dirt roads. In 2012 their journey was re-enacted by 37 veteran motor cars and bikes. Bob Lamond organised and directed the re-enactment.
