  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Michael Massey Robinson (1744-1826) was a convict, public servant and poet. A lawyer convicted of blackmail, he arrived in Sydney in 1798. He was clerk to the Judge-Advocates Richard Dove and Richard Atkins until 1802 when he was found guilty of 'wilful and corrupt perjury'. In 1810 he was appointed by Lachlan Macquarie as Chief Clerk to the Secretary's Office, and for eleven years he composed the birthday odes for the King and Queen of England.

    Manuscript documents (4) generated by Michael Massey Robinson while working for Richard Dove including:

    1. A two-page Assignment by Robert Forrester to secure debts to Simeon Lord, an ex-convict turned successful entrepreneur, and to Thomas Rickerby, a constable. The document is endorsed in the margin by Michael Massey Robinson, 8 August 1801;

    2. A six-page Indenture Tripartite, handwritten by Robinson, between George Crossley, D’Arcy Wentworth and John Palmer concerning dishonoured bills of exchange. The document is signed twice by Robinson, 16 February 1802;

    3. Two original bills of exchange relating to the Indenture Tripartite, each signed by George Cossley and others, 15 April 1800.
