  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland was formed when the Ethnological Society merged with the Anthropological Society in 1871. The word 'Royal' was added in 1907. It is the world's longest-established scholarly association dedicated to the furtherance of anthropology (the study of humankind) in its broadest and most inclusive sense.

    The drawings in this collection were inventoried in the Institute's 1897 Register of Negatives, Prints and Slides, but their provenance is not described or known.

    The drawings were acquired by the Institute from unknown sources some time before 1897. They were inventoried in the Institute's 1897 Register of Negatives, Prints and Slides.
