Jean Cocteau (1889–1963) was a French writer, designer, playwright, artist and filmmaker. His three act play, La Machine à écrire premiered on 29 April 1941 at the Théâtre Hébertot in Paris. It was translated into English as The Typewriter by Ronald Duncan in 1947.

The All Nations Club was launched in Sydney in 1952 with aims of assisting the integration of post-war immigrants of all nations into the Australian community. It provided a welcome meeting place for members, with bars, restaurants and theatre and a regular newsletter, which documented the club's activities.
