    Meryl Tankard is an Australian dancer and choreographer. Her professional career began as a dancer with the Australian Ballet at the end of 1975. Between 1978 and 1984 she was a principal artist in Germany working with Pina Bausch and her Tanztheater Wuppertal. She spent six years as the Director of Australian Dance Theatre based in Adelaide from 1993-1999. Tankard has directed short films and worked as a freelance choreographer in Australia and overseas.

    Meryl Tankard is a notable Australian dancer and choreographer who has performed around the world over the last 40 years.
    In this interview she highlights various aspects of her prolific career as a dancer, and choreographer; her childhood dance influences in Darwin, Penang and Newcastle; Australian Ballet dancer experience, and how she came to be a principal dancer at Pina Bausch’s influential Tanztheater Wuppertal; her partnership with Regis Lansac, their collaboration running the now MK Company in Canberra, her emerging dance signatures; her time as the director of the Australian Dance Theatre and significant overseas acclaim; freelance work at home and overseas and her late interest in film-making.
