    Leigh Hobbs is an Australian artist who was born in Williamstown, Victoria. He grew up in Bainsdale.and studied art at Caulfield Institute of Technology. At 21 he was hired to supervise restoration of the historical carousel at Sydney’s Luna Park. He is a painter, sculptor, ceramic artist and has worked on film, but is best known as a children’s illustrator. Hobbs is the Australian Children’s Laureate for 2016-17.

    On 23 April 2016, Hobbs ran two drawing workshops as part of the Shakespeare Fan Day held at the State Library of New South Wales. He brought these drawings with him and presented them to the State Librarian Alex Byrne. The 11 works were all created at various times as preparatory drawings for final illustrations published in various books.

    Comprises 11 preparatory drawings by Leigh Hobbs featuring the characters of Old Tom the cat and Angela Throgmorton, Fiona the pig, Mr Badger, Horrible Harriet and Mr Chicken. Several are in colour.
