  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

The Hungarian Uprising of 1956 was a nationwide revolt against the government of the Hungarian People's Republic and its Soviet-imposed policies, lasting from 23 October until 10 November 1956. Having sided with the Freedom fighters, Alex Koroknay's father, Steven Koroknay, became a hunted man after the uprising was crushed and he was forced to flee the country with his family. They migrated to Australia where they settled firstly in Hobart and then in Sydney.
