  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Winifred West (1881-1971) was the founder and headmistress of Frensham School for its first twenty-five years. West came to Australia in 1907 where she met Phyllis Clubbe who shared her love of sport, especially hockey. In 1908 they helped initiate the Women's Inter-State Hockey Matches, and discussed founding a school. In July 1913 Frensham boarding school for girls was opened.

  • Scope and Content
    1 silver gelatin photograph, printed in Austral postcard format. Image shows a combination of teams in their various uniforms mostly standing outside Harts Limited Caterers. The front row are seated and are holding their hockey sticks. Included in the picture is Winifred West (1881-1971), one of the founders of the hockey matches.
