  During the war, Australian women worked in traditional men’s jobs and from about 1918 adopted trousers to both practical and fashionable use. While many turned a blind eye to the practice, there were complaints from members of the public who objected to women in any form of male dress.

  5 photographs, all are Kodak Austral postcard stock.
  1. Mock wedding, 1919. Men are wearing Australian Army uniforms and badges. Women wearing dresses and holding small bouquets. Photographer Bartler Bros. Verso has "Post Card" printed with a description of the image written below, and the photographic studio stamped on the side.
  2. Mock wedding, c.1914-1919. Bride and groom standin in the centre, with flower girls and bridesmaids seated either side, and the groomsmen standing at the far left and far right.
  3. Two women in army uniform c.1914-1919
  4. Studio photograph of young women in costume. Two of which are dressed as soldiers, two are wearing business attire including ties. The roles of some are undefined.
  5. Four women in the snow, dressed as soldiers. The lady at the front is seated, the remainder are standing.
