    Thomas Hood Cockburn-Hood, also known as Thomas Hood Hood, was a Fellow of the Geological Society of London and the Royal Society of New South Wales. Cockburn-Hood, a Paleoanthropologist, was born in Edinburgh, lived in Australia from 1843 until 1862, and returned to Scotland before his death in 1889. His scientific endeavours included studying the native tribes of the Western Pacific. He was also actively involved in colonial politics and was appointed to the first Legislative Council of New South Wales in 1856.

  • Scope and Content
    1 scrapbook entitled "autographs of friends and correspondents. Newspaper clippings. Scraps."
    Album contains numerous newspaper cuttings, autographs and correspondence. Newspaper cuttings are mostly related to advances in science throughout the world, and cover all scientific fields. Autographs and correspondence are hand-written in ink, with 2-3 items per page. There is some loose correspondence at the front of the scrapbook. Both newspaper cuttings and correspondence are at times glued into the scrapbook, and at other times written directly onto the pages of the book, along with poetry.

    Papers include a printed copy of the New Testament.
