  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    The Commemorative Pavilion was built, along with the Manufacturers Hall to mark the 150th year of European settlement in New South Wales. Built at Moore Park Showgrounds it was used to house an exhibition of Australian produce and industry at the Royal Easter Show in 1938.

    The building was designed by Alan Dwyer of architects Trenchard Smith and Maisey, and is described in the Register of the National Estate as a 'heroic mixture of Art Deco and Neo Classical, reputedly modelled on European Zeppelin hangers and influenced by the Sydney Harbour Bridge'.

    16 photographs showing the progression of the construction of the Commemorative Exhibition Building, or the Commemorative Pavilion located at the Royal Agricultural Showground,Moore Park, Sydney. Images show construction of ground work through to completed building. Several photographs are dated August 10 and 19, 1937. Photographers include Milton Kent, Bradford Johnson Pty Ltd, and Phil Ward.
