    Lieutenant Colonel Philip Venables Vernon (1909-1999) is a grandson of Walter Liberty Vernon, an early commander in the Lancers. Philip Vernon served in the regiment between 1927 and 1952, also serving as a commander. He was a founder of the New South Wales Lancers Memorial Museum.

    The Royal New South Wales Lancers is an Australian light horse regiment which was formed as a colonial unit in 1885. The regiment served in the Boer War, both World Wars, and in 2010 served as a peacekeeping unit in the Solomon Islands.

  • Scope and Content
    This collection comprises of Vernon’s notes, drafts and early outlines for a work which was eventually published as The Royal New South Wales Lancers, 1885-1985: incorporating a narrative of the 1st Light Horse Regiment, A.I.F., 1914-1919 in 1961.
