    'The book of the thousand nights and one night : now first completely done into English prose and verse, from the original Arabic, by John Payne ... in nine volumes ; with twenty-one eaux-fortes by M.A. Lalauze'.
    Unpublished volumes 1 and 2, American edition, printed for Angus & Robertson, Sydney, as specimens by Barrie & Co. of Philadelphia with an offer to supply a number of sets, 192-.
    Accompanied by an explanatory letter written by George Robertson to John A. Ferguson, 7 June 1922: "Although it bears our imprint it was never published by us, and so cannot be included among our publications".
    A pencil inscription inside Volume 1 [probably in George Robertson's hand] further explains that "Payne's translation being still in copyright we were unable to do an edition".
