• ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
  
  Fank Lea Smyth (1851-1922), son of Samuel Hodgson Smyth (1807-1889) of Ashfield Park, was an Oxford educated barrister who practised before the supreme court of New South Wales.
• Scope and Content
  Small red sketchbook bound in limp morocco with gilt rule, cover stamped in gilt ‘My sketch book / Frank Lea Smyth’. Marbled endpapers with bookplate of G. & N. Ingleton in front cover, and Ingleton Catalogue stamp on last page.
  
  Sketchbook contains:
  5 calotype photographic prints showing portraits of two men and two women in formal clothing, and Ashfield Park homestead.
  37 drawings, in pencil, and ink, mostly caricatures, with the artist’s handwritten captions.
  Drawings include eight ink sketches of ‘A cricket match’ depicting an APCC [Ashfield Park Cricket Club] match.
  Other subjects include: studies for portraits of ‘Dobbs’, 'Young Dare’, and ‘E. L. Esq., an elegant gentleman’, and Charles James Fox.
  Sketchbook also contains pressed flower.
  Some drawings are pasted in to sketchbook.
