• ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY
  
  The Cadell and Macansh families were early pioneers who settled in the lower Hunter River around the Raymond Terrace area in the mid 1800's. Anne Macansh was the granddaughter of the pastoralist Archibald Windeyer who lived at Kinross, Raymond Terrace. He was closely related to the Tomago House Windeyers. Ann Macansh and William Cadell were married at All Saints Church, Hunters Hill.
  
  Harriet Scott (1830-1907) was the daughter of entomologist Alexander Walker Scott and Harriet Calcott. Alexander Walter Scott became known in the NSW colony as an entomologist, grazier and entrepreneur. Born in Sydney and educated on Ash Island near Newcastle, Harriet and her sister Helena were cousins to David Scott Mitchell.
  
  Helena and Harriet (known as the Scott sisters) were two of 19th century Australia’s most prominent natural history illustrators and some of the first professional female illustrators in the country. Trained by their father in the skills of scientific observation, collection and recording, both women became accomplished amateur natural historians.

  Wedding photographs of William Thomas Cadell and Anne Macansh mounted on board, set in a Harriet Scott graphic and with original frame. Contains three photographs, one each of the bride and groom and one of the group of bridesmaids. The photographs are surrounded by a detailed illustration of nature, including possums, wombats and native vegetation, signed by the colonial botanical artist Harriet Scott. The photographer is unknown.
