John Dillon departed from Sydney on the ‘Otranto’ on 21 April 1951 bound for London. Over the next 18 months he travelled around the British Isles, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Norway and Sweden, hitch-hiking and staying in Youth Hostels.

Atlas of the British Isles dating to 1952. Green cover with coloured maps. Hand-written notes from the owner in the back cover. Dimensions: 15.6 x 10 cm.

5. Travel Diary: 1 September - 17 October 1952
This diary particularly describes his time in Ireland, Suez Canal, and returning to Australia.

6. Cloth Maps
Two cloth maps, one of Scandanavia and the Baltic, the other of Western Europe. Both are published by John Bartholomew & Son Ltd. Images are coloured.

Includes coloured maps on paper of the British Isles, Scotland

8. Australian Youth Hostel Association Membership Card
Picture of an outline of Australia, with the YHA symbol in the centre of the country. Following this is the dates in which the card is valid, and some small print information. At the bottom is personal details regarding the card owner. Extremely dis-coloured, Dimensions: 12 x 7.5 cm

1950s passport complete with visa stamps. 32 pages. Brown cover.

33 photographs and postcards, from throughout Mr Dillon's travels. Most with annotations on verso. Partial contents list accompanies images.

2. Photographic albums
Two albums of photographs, mostly black and white although some are coloured. Detailed contents list contained with albums, which was created by the donor. Pages black with white writing.
