    Martin Fallding is the principal environmental planner at Land & Environment Planning, specialising in strategic land use planning for biodiversity and natural resources in New South Wales. He has worked closely with the Joint Regional Biodiversity Working Group, National Parks & Wildlife Service, Planning NSW, regional groups, and local government. He was also instrumental in the Union of Lane Cove Valley Conservationists group (established 1970).

  • Scope and Content
    The collection relates to natural resource mining, especially in Singleton and Hunter Valley NSW; natural resource planning and management; urban and regional planning, especially Hunter region and Sydney metropolitan; environmental issues and campaigns. The collection consists mainly of brochures, reports, and newsletters collected by Martin Fallding between 1970 and 2010.

    Coal mining:
    Correspondence, brochures, booklets, maps, itineraries, papers, advertisements, articles, reports, videos, flyers, and cuttings, 1978-1996. Subjects include: open cut coal mining; native title; Berrima colliery; Bengalla open cut mine at Muswellbrook; environmental management at Birds Rock colliery; BHP and Ok Tedi; coal mining in the Hunter Valley; development applications for mines; Australian Conservation Foundation Symposium on Conservation and Mining; National Coal Week, October 1993; mining industry advertisements relating to Bengalla mine. Also includes publications ‘Planning for coal mining’ (1979); ‘EIA practice and promise: a case study’ (2000).
