    William Cobeck, 1871-1930, was a British seaman who participated in two Anarctic exploration expeditions, as assistant magnetician and meteorologist on the British Antarctic Expedition, 1898-1900, and as Captain of SY Morning, the relief ship of the British National Antarctic Expedition, 1901-1904, also known as the Discovery Expedition.

    Handwritten letter from William Colbeck to Admiral Albert Markham, written at sea en route to the Auckland Islands, 11 March 1904. Letter describes the achievements of the British National Antarctic Expedition on its mission to free Discovery, a ship which had been icebound near Ross Island since 4 January 1904.
