    Dr John Jennings Imrie (1813-1901) migrated to New Zealand from Scotland in 1841. In 1843 he sailed to Hobart. In 1846 he was appointed to take charge of 6 rebellious Maoris who had been incarcerated in the convict settlement on Maria Island. In 1848 he was appointed assistant superintendent of the Female factory at Ross. In 1864 he moved to Queensland where he joined the civil service.

Typescript article ‘A Couple of Donkeys’ by Fiona Bekkers, 2001 about Bertha Walker (nee Jones) together with a letter from Hugh Walker to George Jones, 20 December 1895 concerning Bertha, Jones’ sister, a school teacher in Queensland who had recently married Walker, a mining engineer in Albany.
