Gordon Richardson (1917-2012) was Principal Librarian of the Public Library of NSW 1959-1973 and Mitchell Librarian, 1958-1973. John Metcalfe (1901-1982) was Principal Librarian of the Public Library of NSW, 1942-1959. He was a great advocate for free public libraries and helped found the Australian Institute of Librarians
