The Kosciusko Alpine Club (KAC) was formed in 1909, the same year that the Hotel Kosciusko was opened. The founding President was Charles Kerry, father of Australian skiing (1857-1928). Kosciusko Alpine Club took up residence in the Hotel Kosciusko after it was opened in 1909 for two weeks each July and a Club Room was provided. The Hotel remained the Club’s winter quarters until 1930 when the new Kosciusko Chalet was opened at Charlotte Pass. The Club has been associated with various huts in the area, such as, White’s River Hut, the Alpine Hut, and Ibis Hut. It has lodges in Charlotte Pass, Threadbo, and Perisher Valley.
