  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

The Canterbury estate, Ashfield was acquired by Robert Campbell of Wharf House in 1803 from William Cox. Robert and Sophia Campbell's daughter Sarah married Arthur Jeffreys. Canterbury House, formerly at George’s River Road, Canterbury, was built ca 1850 by Edmund Blacket for the Jeffreys. It was demolished in 1928 by its then owners, the Presbyterian Church, for residential subdivision. The Miss Campbell who commissioned the watercolours was Sophia Ives Campbell, Sara Jeffreys’ sister.
