  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

During the mid-1880s the community at La Perouse began attracting non-indigenous tourists from the city. The La Perouse Aboriginal people participated in the tourist industry, selling boomerangs and other souvenirs, including the famed shellwork produced by the Aboriginal women to visitors. Between 1908 and 1915 the population at La Perouse grew from 73 to 124.
