William Alan Audsley, 1890-1963, enlisted as a lieutenant of artillery on 1 April 1916. He embarked on HMAT Argyllshire on 11 May 1916 and served in the 5th Field Artillery Brigade in France where he witnessed the shooting down of the Red Baron. Promoted to temporary Major he was awarded the DSO and was mentioned in despatches twice. After the war he rowed for the AIF in the Royal Henley Peace Regatta and returned to Australia in July 1919.
