  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    John Frederick Fallding (1921-2000), born in Cessnock, N.S.W., was a lifelong pacifist. As a young man he participated in Methodist Crusader Camps, then joined the Quakers and became a pacifist. A conscientious objector in World War II, he was directed by the authorities to do civilian work under civilian control building a road in the Watagan Forest for the Forestry Commission of N.S.W., 1942-1944. His experience on this project was related in a talk to the Australian Pacifist Conference in 1946. In 1949 he represented Australia at the World Pacifist Conference in India, where he was influenced by the non-violent activism of Gandhi

Vreni and John Fallding engagement notice. Bernard Narakobi was the first Chief Justice of Papua New Guinea. John Fallding met him as a law student at Sydney University.
