Originally owned by Mr E. B. Macpherson and Mrs Judy Macpherson, Lane Cove, Sydney. Ownership passed to David William Macpherson, November 2014.

The photographs record family life in and around Sydney, as well as family groups, trips and rural scenes. Some images relate to the Macpherson family property 'Hawthornden' in Woollahra, and 'Warringah Lodge' Cremorne, as well as rural scenes in Burragorang, N.S.W. Sydney beaches such as Clovelly, Coogee and Manly. Other photographs relate to trips to Wentworth Falls, NSW, and overseas areas of New Zealand and Norfolk Island.

One large plate negative is titled 'Hawthornden, 1899'.
