    Sophie Stronach was born in Brisbane on the 18 November 1912 and later spent her childhood in New South Wales. She studied at Fort Street Girls High School, graduating in 1932 and completed her nursing training in 1937 at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney, Training School for Nurses graduating in 1937. She travelled extensively through China, India, Burma, Thailand and Malaysia (Sitiawan) working as a missionary for the Methodist Church. She later returned to Australia and continued her work with the Methodist Church.
