  • Scope and Content
    This series comprises black and white photographs and negatives depicting the Missions, Aboriginal people, E.R. and J.B. Gribble and their families, mission buildings and landscapes. Most have been placed in albums but a few were found loose with other material. These have been placed in folder 23/5.

    Folder 23/1
    Two black and white photographs depicting a group of Aborigines labelled "as they were before the Mission took charge of them".

    Folder 23/2
    235 black and white photographs originally housed in an album of thick cardboard, which was labelled 'Views of Missionary work among Australian Aborigines from 1892-1940'. Includes photographs of Aborigines, mission life, buildings, Forrest River, Yarrabah, Palm Island, Fantome Island, Crocodile Island, the Gribble family, Sydney and James Noble. Some are missing.

    3 black and white photographs depicting the Public Hall at Yarrabah, E.R. Gribble's home at Yarrabah and a family photograph of Eric Livingstone Bulmer Gribble's wife Myrtle Adelaide (Noela) Bousfield's family. They are as follows:
    Standing left to right - Harry Cyril William Bousfield, Frank Adrian William Bousfield, Maude Annie Bousfield (married to Gerald Gaites).
    Seated left to right - Mary Ann Bousfield nee Williams, Myrtle Adelaide (Noela) Bousfield, Harry Alderson Bousfield.

    Folder 23/4
    Black and white photographs pasted onto single sheets and originally placed in a folder labelled 'Yarrabah photographs'. The photographs depict J.B. Gribble, Aboriginal ceremonies, the staff at Yarrabah, St Alban's Church, James Noble, Douglas Pitt, the Yarrabah choir, Prince Albert of Yarrabah and his wife.

    Black and white photograph of Aborigines in chains found in the same box as the Royal Commission papers, and a black and white photograph of a young girl with a boomerang.

    Folder 23/6
    8 sets of negatives in their original envelopes, labelled as follows: 'Snaps abroad', 'Church - interior of Bishop's study, Bishop's Lodge, St Mark's Church, Frank Callum and Palm Island', 'Bishop's Lodge', 'P.I.' (Palm Island), 'Churches Abroad - taken while on deputation' and 3 unlabelled envelopes.
