  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Emily Power was born in Murrumbucca, New South Wales in 1885 to parents Emily Power and James Power. They were one of the pioneering families in the Adaminaby Monaro district. Her father James Power died when she was 12 years in 1898 as a result of waggonette accident at Caddigat after which her mother Emily Power and the children (James Thomas 1874; Edward 1876: Maria 1877; George 1880; Ann Selina 1882 D 1882; Sarah Alice 1883; Emily 1885; Violet 1888; Ernest 1891; Selina I 1893; Alice E 1896; Elsie M 1899) went back to live with the maternal grandparents George and Ann Barrett on their property in Inglewood. Emily Power was employed as a lady's companion as well as a postmistress at Rosedale prior to her marriage at age 30.
